Steven Begakis

Counsel

Mr. Begakis assists clients with a variety of litigation and appellate matters that encompass constitutional law, administrative law, commercial litigation, and arbitration. He has experience advising clients with regulatory compliance and litigating complex cases involving novel questions of First Amendment rights, constitutional structure, securities law, and other civil matters.

Before joining the firm, Mr. Begakis was appointed to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division as a Policy Advisor. As part of the Division’s executive team, he played a critical role in the development and drafting of high-profile agency guidance, including proposed rules on the regular rate and joint employer status, and an opinion letter on the independent contractor status of “gig” economy workers. He received the Wage and Hour Division Administrator’s Award for Excellence for distinguished public service. Mr. Begakis is a former law clerk to Judge Reed O’Connor of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, and Judge Margaret Ryan of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces. He earned his B.A. in Economics and Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and his J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame Law School. Mr. Begakis is a member of the Virginia, California, and Texas Bars.
